Controlled Burns At Pidherny Set To Destroy Douglas Fir Beetle

Oct 5, 2017 | 12:41 PM

The Douglas Fir Beetle will be hit with fire over the next week, in the Pidherny area as the BC Wildfire Service conducts a series of burns to try and eliminate part of the population.
Trap trees were established this summer, to attract the beetles during their flight season, which is usally from may until August.
Burns will be extinguished within 24 hours.
The Service adds that burning won’t take place if winds are strong.
They are also warning the public who plan on doing any open burning of their own, that winds are expected to reach 80km/h in some parts and request you don’t burn when winds are strong.
