Council Moves To Improve Emergency Response

It may seem like a small move, but it will help tremendously should the City of Prince George have to look at handling another emergency response.

Council has approved the City pursuing a grant application from the Union of BC Municipalities for $24,000 to buy 12 laptop computers.

“Currently the City’s [Emergency Social Services] team has only one laptop computer. During the 2017 wildfire response, desktop and laptop computers were sourced from a variety of partners to ensure the ESS Reception Centre and Group Lodging Centres’ teams could better complete their tasks,” was outlined in a report to Council. “It takes valuable time and resources to source, acquire and activate computers.”

Since the wildfire season came to a close, the biggest challenge identified by the City was the amount of paperwork that had to be processed for the evacuee response.
