NKDF Grants Funds To New Projects

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s a time to be thankful for a lending hand. The Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society (NKDF) provided that lending hand by approving $283,975 in funding for four new projects in the northern region.

The Haisla Nation Council was awarded $90,000 towards the film project where they’ll be turning the critically acclaimed novel Monkey Beach into a movie. Monkey Beach will be the first major Indigenous film shot in Canada that showcases Haisla culture. The Fraser Lake Fire Rescue Training Society was granted $93,975 towards purchasing a Wildlife Sprinkler Protection Unit (SPU). The SPU is used to train emergency services personnel, industry-first responders and wildland firefighters for when a wildfire takes place in northern BC. $40,000 was given to Nechako View Seniors Citizens Housing Society for the first phase of development of a 35-unit Seniors Complex. The District of Vanderhoof was granted $60,000 for developing a Visitor Information Centre at the Vanderhoof Historical Park.

Wayne Salewski, NKDF Chair says that these projects “demonstrate well how the NKDF funds support the needs of each community.”
