Despite being outshot 38 – 19, the Prince George Cougars picked up a valuable point against the Vancouver Giants in a 4 – 3 overtime loss New Year’s Day.

Dennis Cholowski’s second goal of the game with 7:16 remaining in the third period tied the game at 3 and set up overtime.  Cholowski scored with one second left in the third period of Saturday’s game, forcing overtime in the Cougars stunning 7 – 6 win against the Giants.

But this time the Giants would do the scoring in overtime.  James Malm notched his 15th of the season at the 2:00 mark to give Vancouver the extra point.

Kody MacDonald also scored for the Cougars while Jared Dmytriw scored twice for the Giants and picked up assists on the other Vancouver goals.

The result gives the Cougars 5 out of 8 points on their post Christmas roadtrip against two of the top three teams in the BC Division.  However they remain 7 points behind Seattle and the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Prince George returns home for a four game homestand which begins Friday against Tri-City.
