WILLIAMS LAKE — 100 Mile House RCMP responded to a fatal collision on Highway 97 South and Butler Road near Lac La Hache yesterday. The highway was closed for several hours while the collision was under investigation, but was re-opened in the late afternoon.

It was determined that a logging truck was in the fast lane trying to pass another semi truck when their trailers made contact. The logging truck jack-knifed into the northbound lanes and struck a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was dead at the scene and a youth was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Neither driver from the semi trucks was injured.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to call Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Traffic Services at (250) 392-8729. Police are reminding the public to be cautious on the roads during harsh conditions. Drivers should ensure that their vehicle is properly equipped with winter tires and pack extra clothing and food for any possible delays.
