PRINCE GEORGE — Construction continues on a new footbridge at Cottonwood Island Park. After it was washed away during the ice jam ten years ago, the project was on the city’s to-do list for years.

With girders weighing twenty-eight thousand pounds, the new span is much higher than the former wooden one. With a five percent grade, it will have universal accessibility. Its hoped the new bridge will allow more access to western waterfront trails at the park.

The city project is on budget at $369,000, and just over thirty more is going to trail rehabilitation.

Engineer Roy Keery says the project is a homegrown one, with local builders involved. The bridge is expected to be complete by the spring.
