World Wildlife Fund Canada Seeing a Wildlife Decline

The World Wildlife Fund Canada is the country’s largest international conservation group. One of their focuses is to reverse the decline of wildlife. The organization has seen a decline in several wildlife species across the country.  Recent surveys conducted by provincial biologists have shown that since the early 2000’s, some areas of the BC Interior have seen a 70 percent decline in the moose population. According to Megan Leslie, CEO of World Wildlife Fund Canada, the impacts on the wildlife populations is a national issue.  Last month, an announcement was made by the government of BC to end the hunting of grizzly bears throughout the province. WWF Canada says the strategy to halt the hunt in the moment may be necessary but not the solution. Megan Leslie says the traditional way of protecting wildlife is not working. She adds there isn’t one solution to fixing the decline, there needs to multiple solutions and it will require working with business and industry.
