PRINCE GEORGE- Many places in Canada are expecting extremely cold temperatures this week, with wind chills into the -50s in some areas. It’s not expected to be that cold in Prince George, but temperatures are expected to stay in the -10s overnight this week. You’re probably going to want to warm up your car before heading to work in the morning, the RCMP is reminding you to lock your doors whenever your vehicle is unattended.

Cpl. Craig Douglass says a handful of vehicle thefts happen every winter in Prince George due to a running car left unattended and unlocked.

RCMP say leaving your vehicle unlocked contravenes Section 191(2)(a) of the Motor Vehicle Act, Unsecured Motor Vehicle, and carries a fine of $81. This violation can be provided to the owner of the vehicle even if their vehicle has been stolen.

To help prevent theft RCMP recommend you remove valuables from your vehicle or make them less visible, use a steering wheel lock, and lock your doors.
