Anti-Poverty Forum Coming

PRINCE GEORGE — One local affordable housing advocate is pleased with the Throne Speech, released yesterday in the run-up to the budget next week. The government has committed to working with local governments and other stakeholders to address affordable housing issues. Murry Krause says the housing issues of the North are vastly different than those in the Lower Mainland.

“We brought a loud voice from the North on what was needed, especially where we have lots of resource development. Workers moving into communities and displacing people who had lower income. How do you get out in front of that?” asks Krause.

He was equally pleased to see the government moving ahead with a poverty reduction plan. Krause was named to the Minister’s Advisory Forum on Poverty Reduction.

The Anti-Poverty Forum is in the city on Saturday, with Minister Shane Simpson, and they want to hear from the public about tackling poverty. That event takes place Saturday at the Prince George Native Friendship Centre (1600 Third Avenue) from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
