VANDERHOOF — A Vanderhoof man is being called a hero after he saved a moose from the snow last week. Wayne Rowley was driving down Kluskus Forest Service Road when he spotted something strange in the ditch. A moose calf had fallen on its back in some deep freshly fallen snow and got stuck.

Rowley grabbed his shovel and along with another trucker passing by, dug out the stressed animal.  The Moose wandered away seemingly unharmed.

Since the incident, Rowley has become a bit of a celebrity. Animal advocacy groups such as the New York-based The Dodo have reached out to Rowley wanting to share his story.
