Red Tape Putting the Squeeze of Cattle Farmers

Prince George – The Prince George Cattlemen Association members are feeling the squeeze, when it comes to the excessive amount of government paperwork needed to run a farm. The amount of work and time needed filling out forms and operating a business are burning out some local cattle farmers.

There are a variety of red tape issues with raising cattle. Keeping up with paperwork can be a daunting task when some farmers own hundreds of animals, according to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. The Federation says that farmers are among the hardest hit businesses in Canada; 64 percent have been negatively affected by delays caused by red tape, compared to 56 percent of other small business owners.
Many cattle farmers would like to see a streamlining of the government regulations so they have more time to farm than filling out paperwork in the middle of calving season.
