PRINCE GEORGE — Mayor and Council have taken some of the early steps in the construction of a new fire hall on Massey Drive. It has given first two readings to an application that will re-zone two lots along Massey Drive adjacent to the entrance to the YMCA of Northern BC for construction of the new Fire Hall #1.

In October, the City successfully secured approval from taxpayers to borrow no more than $15 million dollars to replace the ageing downtown structure.

However, it was quickly determined the current location of Fire Hall #1 no longer meets requirements.

Today is the closure of the request for pre-qualification, with the anticipated evaluation to run until March 23 and notification during the week of March 28th.

The City expects the design phase to take 36 - 48 weeks, with construction set to take another 64 - 70. The City hopes to turn over the new hall to the Fire Department in August 2020.
