PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Conservation Officer Service has received several calls regarding sightings of bears coming out of hibernation. According to the CO service, the rapid melt is forcing some bears out of their dens and looking for food. According to the CO service, this year’s heavy snowpack makes it more difficult for bears to find natural food sources. Residents are reminded to secure bear attractants. The Conservation Officer service plans to target neighbourhoods were bear activity is high and ticket those residents who do not secure food attractants. Last year thirty black bears were killed in the city by conservation officer service.
