VANCOUVER – Today is the Day of Pink, which is the international day against bullying, discrimination, homophobia and transphobia. For the Day of Pink, the BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils (BCCPAC) is providing new parent resources to help answer questions about Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) in BC schools.

The new SOGI resources include online videos and brochures from $35,000 in funding by the Province. The SOGI 1 2 3 Parent Videos are designed for various grade levels. Videos and brochures can be found online at SOGI Education.

“As the provincial parent organization, BCCPAC represents parents from diverse backgrounds with different cultural beliefs and family values. Every student, regardless of their race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or level of ability has the right to a school community where they feel safe, welcome and included,” says BCCPAC President, Jen Mezei. “SOGI inclusive education helps students understand the diverse communities we live in, and how to be respectful of others regardless of our differences.”
