Quesnel Connector Moves Forward

QUESNEL — Quesnel Council has set the next stage for the development of an inter-connector route that would have Highway 97 heavy traffic diverted from the downtown. It recently got 84% approval from residents who attended two public open houses.

“At our last meeting, Council passed a resolution of full support for the inter-connector and to ask the Minister now to respond to the report in a timely manner,” explains Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson. “And to indicate the next stage planning resources are going to be available so we don’t lose momentum.”

Simpson says he has heard figures of $8 million to $20 million and everything in between to take the process through “the entire technical development stage” which is a two- to three-year project.

That turns it into a plan, designed and engineered. Fast forward another two or three years before it heads to Treasury Board.
