WENATCHEE, WASHINGTON STATE – A historic season for the Prince George Spruce Kings has come to a close with a Game 5 loss in Wenatchee Thursday night.  The team’s first-ever trip to the final round of the BCHL Playoffs was capped off with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of this year’s champion, the Wenatchee Wild.

The Spruce Kings were in tough against the lone American team in the league, losing the first three games of the series before prevailing in Game 4 back in Prince George on Tuesday.

The Wild capitalized on special teams Thursday night, scoring two of their goals on powerplay opportunities. Zak Galambos, who scored the winning goal in double overtime in Monday’s Game 3, scored a pair of goals in the contest. AJ Vanderbeck also added a goal, bringing his point total up to ten in the series.

Evan DeBrouwer did all he could in the game, making 34 of 36 saves. Opposing goaltender Austin Park needed to make just eight saves in the victory. DeBrouwer finishes the playoffs with the most minutes played, the second lowest goals against average and the fifth best save percentage.

The book also closes on a great postseason for Ethan de Jong. The forward cracked the top three in both goals and total points in the playoffs. He averaged over one point a game and also scored the most shorthanded goals across the league.

The Spruce Kings advanced further than they ever have in the playoffs and will return to Prince George for the offseason, while the Wild head to the Doyle Cup, a meeting between the BCHL and Alberta Junior Hockey League champions. The series will start on April 27th.
