On-foot chase leads to guilty plea for theft last week
PRINCE GEORGE–A man was sentenced for a robbery last week that started with an on-foot chase.
On Friday, Sept. 6th an RCMP officer happened to catch glimpse of a man wearing a uniform from a local business chasing another man on 2nd Ave near Ottawa St. The man being chased was carrying a laptop bag and a tablet.
The RCMP officer proceeded to exit his vehicle and directed the man to stop, however the man altered his course and continued to run. A foot chase after the suspect was initiated by the officer. RCMP discovered that the suspect had opened an unlocked car door and removed a laptop computer and a tablet from a parked car. An employee from a local business, responsible for the car confronted him and that was when he had fled.
22-year-old Jordy Martin Visser-Hayne was remanded in custody over the weekend and appeared in court on Monday, Sept. 5th where he pled guilty to theft under $5,000. He was sentenced to 45 days in custody followed by one year probation.
