Why doesn’t the government use these guys: MLA Mike Morris

PRINCE GEORGE – As much of the province deals with massive wildfires burning out of control, MLA Mike Morris wonders why the province is passing up on a Northern BC-based company.

“Insurance companies are using them so why isn’t the government,” says Morris.

Morris wonders why Katrine Conroy the Minister of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resources hasn’t taken the chance to meet with Safeguard.

Safeguard is based out of Fort St. John and offers Mass Water Delivery Systems which can deliver 6.9 million gallons of water to where it needs to go, whether it’s creating a ‘water curtain’ or filling tanks of water.

Minister Conroy responded to the claim by saying the company never participated in the province’s procurement process.

Safeguard spoke to CKPG News and said that the procurement process the Minister is referring to doesn’t exist.

The cost of the Safeguard system is equal to the cost of one medium helicopter per day which is less then $20,000.

The company says they have not received any contracts with the BC Wildfire Service this fire season.

Minister Conroy says the BC Wildfire Service experts continue to seek resources from across the country, including personnel and equipment.
