Battleship Mountain wildfire has grown to 4,500 hectares

HUDSON’S HOPE — A wildfire burning approximately 50 km west of Hudson’s Hope is now 4,500 hectares in size.

The Battleship Mountain fire that was discovered on August 30 has continued to grow overnight since Friday (September 2).

The lightning-caused fire is classified as out of control and fire growth was primarily to the northeast and was driven by wind.

An evacuation is currently in effect and due to the potential danger to life and health, the Peace River Regional District has listed the following areas under that order:

• North shore of Williston Lake
• Table Creek south to Dowling Creek (8km west of the WAC Bennett Dam, 40km Johnson FSR)
• Southwest following Dowling Creek to the intersection of McAllister Creek
• West to approximately 10km West of Peck Creek
• North to Williston Lake
