PRINCE GEORGE- As we get closer to the holiday season, A few things are becoming more prominent.

Snow and ice are becoming a bigger problem, and those delivering your packages are asking you to keep walkways shovelled and maintained.

“Christmas is our busiest part of the year,” said Tyler Funk, who works with Canada Post. “Making sure that any ice has some ice melt or some sand down on it to give our employees some traction is important.”

Other tips include keeping stairways, handrails, and mailboxes clear of obstructions to prevent slips and falls that could lead to serious injuries.

“It’s for both the customer and ourselves as well, for our delivery agents because nobody wants that anybody to fall on their property either,” said Funk.

If someone does slip and hurt themselves, legal action could be taken.

“The occupier has to take whatever steps would be considered by most people to be commonsense kinds of steps to keep the premises. Not perfectly safe, but safe to a degree,” said Garth Wright, a lawyer in Prince George.
