PRINCE GEORGE – When you think of high school sports, activities like volleyball and basketball may come to mind. You should probably add esports to that group now as well as the modern sport takes off across Canada and in Prince George.

Students at PGSS have been making a lot of noise with recent success on the international stage. The group participated and won the Pacific Region for PlayVS Super Smash Bros Ultimate, beating schools from BC to Arizona.

“It’s pretty competitive,” said Lannon Liu, player on the PGSS esports team. “I thought we had a pretty good shot because we were one of the few schools that do this, but it was still very exciting.”

Self-proclaimed ’emotional coach’, and teacher sponsor Matt Murray said the success has made him extremely proud.

Murray said the success would not be possible without the support of the PGSS Parent Advisory Council who sponsored several pieces of equipment. Murray added there would be no international win without the reliable internet connection and facilities offered by Gamequest in Prince George.
