Local gymnast wins bronze medal at 2023 BC Winter Games

PRINCE GEORGE– Ana Davis was one of many athletes who returned to Prince George after a successful showing at the 2023 BC Winter Games. It’s an experience the gymnast will never forget.

“I had an amazing time at the games. If you have the opportunity to go, you shouldtake that chance and try it out because I had an awesome experience. It was really fun. The bus ride was super fun and I thought the socializing with different people and I made a lot of new friends, which was all super fun.” –Ana Davis, Cariboo-North East Region

Not only did the 12-year-old girl have fun at the event. She also earned a bronze medal in Artistic Gymnastics Beam. Something she couldn’t even believe at the time.

“I was so surprised when I got the medal. I did not expect to even place on anything because it’s a very hard competition. And when they called my name, I thought it was a mistake or something. But I was so happy. I think a lot of my friends and family were really happy for me.” –Ana Davis, Won Bronze medal at the 2023 BC Winter Games

Becky Barwise started coaching Ana in advanced gymnastics when she was 6 years old. Barwise coached her and other regional athletes down at the games and wasexcited to see her place in the events she’s trained so hard for.

“The first day they compete as a zone and whatever they place top eight in, they get to compete the next day and finals. So she got to compete in bars and beam for the final event and she got third place on beam and fifth place on bars in the finals, which is really huge and exciting for her.” – Becky Barwise, Coached Cariboo-North East region at the games

The Young gymnast won’t be taking a break anytime soon as she’s set to head to provincials on Friday.
