PRINCE GEORGE – Canfor Corporation is looking at its long and short-term futures in the new era of sustainability. It dovetails with a recent ambition by Canfor to become carbon neutral by 2050. And, while there are no startling revelations with this more recent plan, it is a compilation of various goals to become greener.

“Our carbon goals and we believe that reducing our carbon emissions is hugely important and we’re putting a really big focus on it when we talk about sustainability across the whole organization. It is in a number of initiatives, big and small, that are going to help us become a more sustainable organization and quite frankly, make sure that we are able to be here for generations to come,” explains Michelle Ward with Canfor.

In recent years, global corporations, like the Canfor’s of the world, have been focussed on a three-letter acronym: ESG. It is the next expectation that companies are taking very seriously.

“Absolutely. I mean, it’s a very big focus in terms of and that really refers to environment, sustainability and governance. And so when we talk about the sustainability report, there’s a lot of synergies between those two, those two things, and we’re very focused on it both within our own business, but also quite frankly, the benefits that we see that the forest sector can provide to the world.”

The updated plan includes commitments to:

*Sustainable Forest Practices,

*Net Zero Company by 2050,

*Minimizing Air Emissions, and

*Improving Water and Waste Management It also commits, the management of wood Residuals, Supply Chain Management, and Energy Management.

The report sets out a target to reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 42% by 2030.
