PRINCE GEORGE — Tai Ushio scored the Drop the Gloves and Sock it to Em goal as the Prince George Spruce Kings beat the Victoria Grizzlies 7-3 Saturday (Dec. 6) night at Kopar Memorial Arena.

Leading 3-2 after two periods, the Spruce Kings scored four goals in just under five minutes in the third period to pull away and pick up the win, and the weekend sweep.

Goals from Ushio and Jackson Froysland had Prince George up 2-0 before Landen Ward pulled on back for the visitors.

Victoria actually tied the game at 2-2 early in the second as Levi Eiter beat Spruce Kings goaltender Ryder Green on the blocker side. But with less than five minutes left in the period, Dominic Szczygiel restored the lead as he beat Spencer Michnik on the backhand

The Spruce Kings’ offence then erupted as Ryan Wachtel scored twice, while Froysland and Spencer Masters all found the back of the net to make it 7-2 before the eight minute mark in the third period.

Victoria pulled once back through Landon Mackie late in the period to make it a 7-3 final.

Green made 24 saves on 27 shots to pick up the win for Prince George, while Michnik stopped 30 of 37 shots in a losing effort.

The Spruce Kings have now won four in a row and seven of their last nine games in the BCHL. At 14-9-1, they’re in a tie with Coquitlam for second in the Coastal Conference, though the 14-6-1 Express have played three fewer games.

The Spruce Kings will be in Coquitlam on Friday (Dec. 12) and in Langley Saturday (Dec. 13) to face the Rivermen this weekend.

They’re also scheduled to face the conference-leading Cowichan Valley Capitals the following weekend (Dec. 19 and 20) in what will be their final games of 2025.
