U Sports Roundup: Saumure helps lead Axemen in 27-24 win over Gaiters

LENNOXVILLE, Que. — Jarett Saumure kicked a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter to lift the Acadia Axemen over the Bishop’s Gaiters 27-24 on Saturday in Canadian university football action.

Saumure connected on field goals from 10 and 21 yards in the final five minutes of play for Acadia (4-2), finishing the day with three field goals and one convert. Quarterback Cody Cluett completed 24-for-38 pass attempts for 291 yards and a touchdown.

QB Stephen Casey was the focal point of Bishop’s (1-4) offence. He completed 17-of-37 pass attempts with one interception for 301 yards.

Casey also led the Gaiters’ rushing attack, carrying the ball seven times for 72 yards.
