The BC Coroners Service has released the latest findings when it comes to fentanyl related deaths across the province.
From January to August of this year, 34 people in the northern region have died from fentanyl-detected deaths, 20 of which were in the Northern Interior.
Close to a quarter of those deaths were in Prince George.
Across the province there were 823 illicit drug overdose deaths in the same time period, and over 1,000 this year to-date.
Fentanyl was detected in 81 percent of illicit drug overdose deaths from January to August.
The NDP government announced last month $322 million in funding to fight the fentanyl crisis.
Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Judy Darcy calls the current system broken, and that the province is finding ways to try and combat the issue.
