A new study suggests Prince Rupert is proving to be an engine of economic growth across northern B-C.

The study finds the port in the city generated more than one-billion dollars in economic output for the region’s economy last year.

The study commisioned by the Prince Rupert Port Authority says marine, terminal, rail, truck and logistics activities in the region helped employ more than 31-hundred people.

It says half of the direct jobs were located in the Prince Rupert area, but hundreds of workers in communities throughout Northern B-C were responsible for moving over 35-billion dollars worth of international trade through the Port’s supply chain.
