Members of the Prince George community came together today to show their support for World AIDS Day. Raising awareness, providing education and engaging the community were the main goals Positive Living North had in setting up the event.

“It’s about education and learning more and getting to know people living with HIV. So we have programs at our agency that has people living with HIV going out and providing that pervention message from their personal satndpoint,” said Vanessa West, Executive Director, Positive Living North.

Despite the education on HIV there are still misconceptions that exist around the disease, including what HIV and AIDS mean.

“The thing that is passed on from individual to individual is HIV not AIDS. AIDS is just a possibility that if you have the HIV virus within your body not getting treated it could have the possibility of developing AIDS. So not everyone living with HIV have AIDS,” said Orlando McLeish, HIV educator.
