Spruce Kings forwards Kyle Johnson and Ethan de Jong will be bringing a gold medal back to Prince George.

The pair captured gold with Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge, beating Team USA in the championship game 5-1. Johnson and de Jong both had an assist in the win.

Prince George’s Pam Solmonson will also be bringing a gold medal back to Prince George, after serving as Team Canada West’s trainer for the tournament.

Team Canada West lost their first two games at the tournament, 5-2 to the Czech Republic and 2-1 to Team USA, but then beat those same two teams in the semi final and final respectively. Canada West is the only team to win the tournament after losing their first two games, a feat they also accomplished in 2011.
