New Training Offered To Northeast First Nations

Cooking and natural resource industry training will become available to First Nations in the northeast of the province. The B.C. government is investing $369,000 to support the training. It’ll be available to 10 members of Fort Nelson First Nation and eight of Saulteau and West Moberly First Nations. The participants from Fort Nelson First Nation will take the program in Fort St. John from Northern Lights College and those from Saulteau and West Moberly will be in Moberly Lake. Participants will learn the skills of meal planning, knowledge of safety, sanitation and food storage and credit toward the Professional Cook 1 apprenticeship program. The province is also giving out $175,000 to Doig River First Nation to provide occupational health and safety and land reclamation training and certification. The skills learned include, fire suppression, chainsaw operation, wildfire danger trees and occupational health and safety. That program will be delivered to 40 participants in Doig River in partnership with the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC).
