The Regional District of Fraser Fort George has a big challenge ahead of it in 2018.  It’s developing its first Asset Management Plan.

It’s a massive job to identify all of the Regional District’s assets which include the Foothills Landfill, volunteer fire halls and regional parks.  “Asset management is a continuous process,” said Jim Martin, Administrator for the Regional District of Fraser Fort George.  “It’s planning, implementing, and reviewing.  We’ve already started to do some condition assessment of buildings.  So we’ve jumped in already on, I guess, on the merry-go-round of asset management.”

The Regional District is just starting the process of writing it’s initial Asset Management Plan.  Martin said a lot of tough work lies ahead.  “We’ve got lots of assets out there and we don’t  the condition of those assets.  We don’t know where they are in their life cycle right now and we don’t know what it’s going to take in order to get the most use out of them.”

It’s obligated to complete the plan to qualify for the Community Works Fund, which is built through federal gas tax funds.  “We’re blessed to have the gas tax,” said Art Kaehn, Chair of the Fraser Fort George Regional District Board.  He added, “It’s just been a wonderful source of income.  Its stable, it’s predictable, we can match it with operational dollars to do energy upgrades, which we’ve done in many fire departments.”
