The Prince George Cougars scored a late Christmas gift Wednesday, dumping the Royals in Victoria 5 – 3.

In their first games since a ten-day Christmas break, the two teams exploded for three goals each in the first 15 minutes of the game.  But the contest settled down after that.

Josh Maser’s powerplay goal at the 2:54 mark of the second period stood up as the winner, as the Cougars closed to within four points of the Seattle Thunderbirds and the final playoff spot in the West.

Joel Lakusta had a pair of goals for the Cougars while Nic Holowko and Jackson Leppard added singles.  Kody MacDonald had 3 assists.  Tavin Grant stood tall in the Cougars net, stopping 36 of 39 shots.
