The Ministry of Environment has issued an air quality advisory for Prince George. The Ministry attributes the elevated levels of fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) to stagnant, still air with poor dispersion. During air quality advisories, the City’s Clean Air Bylaw prohibits the use of wood-burning appliances unless it is the sole source of heating.
A similar advisory was issued yesterday in Vanderhoof, where 24-hour concentrations of PM 2.5 levels were 33.9 micrograms per cubic metre. The Prince George levels currently sit at 26.5 micrograms per cubic metre.
