PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George residents have come out in support of bringing the 2020 Brier to the city. A campaign to sell ticket deposit packages topped the goal set by organizers over the weekend. There have been 2,332 deposit packages sold. That surpasses the goal of 2,020 packages.

“We are tremendously pleased that Northern BC is rallying to support our bid for the 2020 Brier! People definitely want to see this event come to Prince George,” says CN Centre Manager Glen Mikkelsen, Chair of Prince George 2020 Brier Bid Committee.

Officials are hoping more people will put in bid deposits in the weeks to come, but say the focus is now turning to the development of a bid package for the Canadian Curling Association to consider.

Prince George’s bid must be submitted by June 30th. The successful bid is expected to be announced sometime this fall. It’s believed at least two Ontario communities are also bidding for the Brier in 2020.
