PRINCE GEORGE – There has been a 12 cent increase in the Living Wage through north-central British Columbia. Under the new calculation, an hourly wage of $16.51 is required to raise a family of two in Prince George or Quesnel. It’s the first time in three years the figure has risen, although it is still one cent below the 2016 calculation.

The Living Wage rate also bumped up in Kamloops ($17.31), Revelstoke ($19.37), and the Fraser Valley ($16.59). Not surprisingly, the highest Living Wage in the province belongs to Metro Vancouver ($20.91). The Living Wage is the hourly wage required for two working parents with two young children to meet their basic expenses, including rent, child care, food and transportation.

More than 110 businesses, who employ over 18,000 workers are certified Living Wage Employers. These include Integris Credit Union, and the City of Quesnel.
