Residents Asked To Be Prepared For Rising Water

PRINCE GEORGE – With warmer temperatures forecasted in the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, residents are asked to be prepared for an increased risk of flooding.

“Temperatures are on the rise and that means rivers, streams and groundwater will be too,” says Anita de Dreu, Emergency Services Coordinator with the Regional District. “Take time now to prepare your property, home and family in the event of flooding.”

Anyone living near a river or stream should take precautions including emergency supply kits for your home, car and work, have a grab-and-go kit, store important documents in watertight containers including a record of your valuables, watch for an increase and intensity of water flows, mudslides, debris in creeks, colour changes in water or leaning trees, remember that river banks may be unstable, keep away from fast flowing water, teach your children about flood safety and make arrangements for any pets or livestock.
