QUESNEL – Two Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT) grant applications have been approved by Quesnel city council yesterday. City staff will now submit the two grant applications to NDIT. The first is a $15,000 grant towards a marketing strategy to help attract more people to come, live and invest in Quesnel. Marketing will focus on highlighting the community’s best qualities to look for the specific industries and people that would be interested in coming to the city. The second is a $30,000 grant towards an event pop-up kit that will help accommodate events in Spirit Square all year round in the effort to increase foot traffic in the downtown area. Events are being planned throughout this fall once the Reid Street Revitalization Project is complete and then on a yearly basis during the spring, summer and fall. To help support these events, the kit would include tying into the existing electrical in Spirit Square to allow vendors throughout the parking lot to use deep fryers, specialty lighting, canopies, durable outdoor cafe tables and chairs, and a sound system big enough to host bands.
