Alexa’s Team Members Recognized

PRINCE GEORGE – Thirty-one RCMP officers from across Northern BC were awarded today.

The Alexa Awards were established in 2008 after the tragic death of 4-year-old Alexa Middelaer at
the hands of an impaired driver. 

The awards are presented to police officers who work hard to remove impaired drivers from our roadways. There has been a fifty percent reduction in impaired-related fatalities since 2010. 

That’s well over what they anticipated when they began Alexa’s Team and it’s time to move on.

“This year actually, at the tenth anniversary, we are transitioning from these formal recognition events,” says Laurel  Middelaer, Alexa’s Mother. “Alexa’s Team will still continue on and will still recognize the officers.”
