VICTORIA – A new agriculture committee will be making the rounds throughout the province next month, to begin public consultations regarding local meat production and inspection. “Committee members are eager to learn more about meat production and inspection practices in our province,” said Ronna-Rae Leonard, committee chair. “Today is B.C. Beef Day. Where our food comes from is very important, and we want to hear input directly from British Columbians on how to make improvements to our current system.”

Locations that the committee will be at include Dawson Creek on June 4th, Prince George and Terrace on June 5th, Haida Gwaii/Masset on June 6th and Williams Lake on June 12th. “The committee wants to hear from local farmers, producers, processors, restaurateurs, consumers and other British Columbians,” said Jackie Tegart, deputy chair. “The information collected through this consultation will directly inform the committee’s recommendations.”

Residents can present at the public hearings, make a written, audio or video submission, or complete an online survey. For more information, visit the Select Standing Committee on Agriculture, Fish and Food.
