Quesnel Residents To Be Prepared For Potential Flooding

QUESNEL – Residents in Quesnel with properties in low lying areas near waterways are being warned of the potential risks of flooding.

Earlier this week, the BC River Forecast Centre upgraded the Fraser River at Prince George through Quesnel to a flood watch. Water levels are rising and will approach or may exceed banks. The City is prepared to respond to rising waters and wants residents to know that it is the homeowner’s responsibility to protect their homes and properties.

To help protect your home and family, create an emergency plan, put together a grab-and-go bag, connect with your neighbours, move equipment and other belongings to higher ground, clear out perimeter drains, eavestroughs and gutters along with maintaining sump pumps, anchor any fuel supplies and park your vehicles away from streams or waterways. Residents are asked to keep their children and animals away from river banks and follow all detour signs on roadways and trails.
