PRINCE GEORGE – After over 30 years in the business, a local bakery closed its doors for good this week. Not because of a lack of dough, but to mark a new chapter in the owners’ lives.

Monika and Roman Muntener are saying goodbye to the Red Rooster Artisan Bakery. The decision to close the bakery came not only because the couple is looking to retire, but due to Monika’s upcoming knee replacement.

“My passion is baking bread, I love it, I still do, but we have to take life a little bit easier now, the joints are giving out,” says Monika Muntener, Co-owner.

The couple moved to Prince George from Switzerland in 1986. At their home in Mud River, they built a traditional wood-fired masonry oven, which fueled their love of the craft.
