PRINCE GEORGE –  Vaisakhi celebrates the birth of the Sikh religion, but the event isn’t just for the Punjabi community. The annual celebration welcomed an array of cultures at the Guru Nanak Darbar Temple today. The Lheidli T’enneh took part in the celebrations for the very first time this year, drumming before the parade procession began.

“I think it’s important to be here because this is truly multi-cultural, and for us to get together as a community, it’s huge,” says Marcel Gagnon, Lheidli T’enneh Drummer.

Before and after the drumming, performances of the Indian martial art Gatka were underway as well. This style of stick fighting opened Vaisakhi celebrations.

“Being part of the Sikh community and being part of the Prince George community, it’s just amazing to see the diversity and the sharing and engagement of each and every person regardless of age, gender, geographical, and culture. So it’s beautiful,” says Bally Bassi, Volunteer Organizer.
