Gardeners Search For Green Treasure At David Douglas Botanical Garden

PRINCE GEORGE – Hundreds of avid gardeners lined up this morning to find green treasures and raise money for the Educational Display Gardens at UNBC. The lineup for the 10 am plant sale extended across the parking lot.

The sale is a growing tradition out of the David Douglas Botanical Garden Society. Everything from perennials, trees, shrubs, vegetables, fruits, herbs, and speciality plants are being sold. All the proceeds go towards the maintenance of the garden at the University.

Some of the shoppers were first time gardeners, and others’ passion bloomed many years ago. Diane Quinn was first in line. She has been gardening over a half a century and says there’s often a bit of competition to find unique plants at the sale.

“There’s a few coveted things that are often way in the back, you know, it’d be something different. Like a Bleeding Heart is usually pink, but maybe there’s a pink-red one,” says Dianne Quinn, Gardner.
