VICTORIA – B.C.’s Rental Housing Task Force will be holding public consultations next month throughout the province in order to update tenancy laws to provide safe, secure and affordable housing. The task force will stop in 10 communities including Prince George and Terrace to take a closer look at the issues and challenges that renters and landlords face, as well as mobile homes and home park operators.

“We’ve made some significant improvements in protections for landlords and renters in the past eight months. Now it is time to ask British Columbians about the issues they are still facing, and the solutions they propose,” said Ronna-Rae Leonard, MLA for Courtenay-Comox, and Rental Housing Task Force member. “Hearing from stakeholders and the public is critical to striking the right balance between rental housing providers and renters.”

Changes that the task force will look at include ways to improve security and fairness for both renters and landlords, along with the challenges of affordability, reviewing the existing laws and how they apply to different housing models.

Residents will be able to voice their ideas at the public meetings or submit online. Register for the community meeting in Terrace which will take place on Monday, June 18th at Terrace Sportsplex from 6 pm to 9 pm. You can also register for the meeting in Prince George which will occur on Wednesday, June 20th at Connaught Youth Centre from 6 pm to 9 pm.
