Duchess Park Play Area To Be Temporarily Closed

A popular children’s play area will be closed for a while.

The City will be closing off the playground area of Duchess Park while some renovations are done. Specifically, the artificial turf will be lifted and removed, to be replaced with a new rubberized material made from recycled tires.

“There are Canadian playground standards,” explains Chris Bjorn, the Supervisor for Parks. “At different heights, you have to have different amounts of fall protection.”

The higher the equipment, the thicker the rubber matting beneath it.

The area around it will also be made for accessible.

For security reasons, there will be fencing put up around the playground area while the work is being done.

The tennis courts, the bike track and the dog park will not be impacted and the work is being done to improve safety for the kids while they are on the equipment.
