DEASE LAKE - RCMP and Search and Rescue are currently searching for a missing family after their abandoned vehicle was found about 500 metres from the highway Monday evening.

Investigators say Jeffery Phan, 24, Michelle Lesaca, 24, Satana Phan, 3, and Satan Phan, 2, were planning to fly to the Philippines from the U.S. late last month but cancelled their flight. Police say the family entered Canada earlier this month near Fernie, BC.

They were driving a black 2018 Toyota Yaris with an Oregon license plate 099KRW. Mounties believe the driver might've run out of gas.

Investigators say they've spotted four people matching the description of the missing family. Although their identities have not been confirmed, the possible sighting happened at about 3 pm Wednesday afternoon. Police are now trying to reach them and bring them to safety.
