Sawmill Owners Pay Up

BURNS LAKE – The owners of the burns lake sawmill that exploded six years ago, killing two employees, are paying up. WorkSafe BC had fined Babine Forest Products one million dollars. They have now dropped their appeal towards Worksafe BC. The company says it’s disappointed with the fine after an independent inquiry found it could not have foreseen the explosion – and exercised diligence in managing risks. The explosion was blamed on igniting wood dust and poor weather conditions.
