Williams Lake Man Charged With Animal Cruelty

WILLIAMS LAKE — A Williams Lake area man has been charged with two criminal counts of animal cruelty after authorities seized 46 neglected dogs and puppies from his rural property.

The BC SPCA says the dogs were seized in February due to a lack of shelter, poor sanitation and inadequate veterinary care — but it says the biggest problem was that the dogs were highly unsocialized and terrified of human contact.

Chief prevention and enforcement officer Marcie Moriarty says veterinary and behavioural staff worked around the clock with the dogs and only eight remain in the care of the SPCA while the rest have been placed in new homes.

If convicted Terry Baker faces a maximum fine of 10-thousand dollars and up to five years in jail.
