VICTORIA – With summer officially here, the BC Coroners Service is urging drivers to be extra cautious and plan ahead for road trips.

To ensure a safe trip: plan ahead and allow extra time for any delays, always wear seatbelts, obey the posted speed limits, maintain a safe following distance, check your vehicle that it’s prepped to drive, pack extra food and water and check DriveBC for updates.

Recent data has shown that there were 298 motor vehicle incident deaths in B.C. last year. Between 2018 and 2017, MVI deaths have decreased by an average of 3.2 percent per year.
