One Bag Challenge Puts PG To The Test

PRINCE GEORGE- The One Bag Challenge has started up for the third year in Prince George. It first took place in the city in 2016 with great results for the Salvation Army food bank, however, after last years wildfire the challenge was put on hold. “We just lost track,” said Hell Yeah Prince George! Admin, David Mothus,”so many donations came in because of the fires.” This year, organizers are hoping to exceed the number of donations it received in 2016. “The challenge this year is to get people to take the post that’s on Hell Yeah Prince George! and make it all themselves,” added Mothus,”we want them to repost it, tag five of their friends, and create a whole bunch of different groups doing it so we can get the maximum amount of donations.”

The challenge is meant to bring in donations when the Salvation Army needs it the most. Typically, local food banks see a decline in donations during the summer but the need remains the same. “Every month we’re serving over 2600 people, it’s getting busier and busier,” said Salvation Army business manager, Bill Glasgow. Residents are asked to take a photo donating one bag of non-perishable food items, personal hygiene products, or pet food, then post it online, and nominate five friends to do the same. Volunteers at the Salvation Army will weigh and record the number of donations that come in over the next two weeks. You can find the original post on the Hell Yeah Prince George! Facebook page.
